Practices

Moanui Farm was established by Ka Ipu Makani Cultural Heritage Center to support our growing ʻāina-based educational programs and strengthen connections between agriculture, culture, and community on Molokaʻi. Education has always been at the center of our work, particularly creating opportunities for keiki and ʻōpio to learn through direct, hands-on experiences with ʻāina. As our educational programs expanded, we recognized the need for a dedicated place where students could learn by doing—growing food, propagating native and culturally important plants, caring for ʻāina, and developing practical skills alongside cultural knowledge. Moanui Farm grew from that need and now serves as an important part of our educational programming, providing a space where learning can extend beyond the classroom and take place directly on the land. Our programs introduce students to agriculture, native plant propagation, restoration, and other forms of ʻāina stewardship while helping them understand the relationships between healthy lands, healthy communities, and the perpetuation of Hawaiian cultural practices. The farm also provides opportunities for internships and workforce development, allowing young people to gain practical experience and explore potential pathways in agriculture, conservation, and natural and cultural resource management.
