Native Hawaiian Medicinal Plant:
The fruits of V. rotundifolia have been used as a folk medicine for the treatment of headache, cold, migraine, eye pain, asthma, chronic bronchitis, and gastrointestinal infections such as bacterial dysentery and diarrhea. An excellent plant for use in stabilizing soil. As it grows, the branches lean over and root at the nodes that are touching the ground. They make excellent ground covers for slopes that need help with erosion control. Pohinahina, with it's pretty purple flowers and sage like fragrance, are quick growers and require very little water after it has been established. Can be layered in folded clothing to repel insects. Height to 2-4' can spread 6'. This is an amazimgly beautiful plant which is also used to make Haku lei.
